SOME's Dining Room for the Homeless

Mission: SOME exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital. We meet the immediate daily needs of the people we serve with food, clothing, and health care. We help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness.

During the past year, SOME, with your help, has been able to provide:

  • 248,058 meals for hungry children, women, and men
  • 10,524 medical and dental care visits to homeless people who could not afford a doctor or dentist
  • 1,526 adults with individual and group counseling, case management and continuing care
  • 120,699 meals for the residents of our rehabilitative programs, senior centers and shelter for abused elderly
  • 13,767 showers and free clothing for homeless men and women
  • 535 homeless children, women and men with safe permanent and long term housing
  • 49 abused and neglected elderly with 1,687 shelter nights
  • 303 homeless men and women with transitional housing in rehabilitative programs designed to help participants maintain sobriety and find employment
  • 51,336 hours of intensive job training to 111 homeless and extremely low-income women and men

While providing a wide range of direct services, we also advocate for public policy and program changes that will better serve the needs of DC's homeless and other low-income residents.

SOME's Vision for the Future: SOME is a trusted agent for change that has broken the cycle of homelessness and hunger in the nation's capital. Through our partnerships and expanding comprehensive continuum of services, those in need have realized their full human potential. Everyone who wants a job has one; everyone has affordable housing, medical care and food. Everyone who wants addiction and mental health treatment receives it; everyone who needs literacy learns to read and to write.
