What You Can Do To … Raise Awareness

Speak out when you hear hostile statements about homeless and low-income individuals. Talk about individuals you've met or learned about and about the diverse causes of homelessness and poverty.

Share informative news stories with your family, friends and colleagues at work. E-mail them articles (or links to articles) that offer insights into the lives and thoughts of low-income individuals and/or people who are working to help them.

Use the media to share facts and stories. Write letters to the editor when newspapers and magazines run articles about homelessness or services for low-income people. Participate in online news forums. Call in to radio talk shows.

If you blog, share your views with other bloggers. Keep up with relevant blog postings with Google blog alerts. Consider starting a blog of your own, if you have the time. WikiHow is a good source for steps and tips.
