Professional Services

Behavioral Health Services
Volunteers will provide mental health and addiction individual or group counseling and case management. Volunteers must possess appropriate licenses and/or certification. After a trial visit, we request that volunteers commit at least one half day each week for 6 months. Individuals with knowledge of substance abuse and mental health issues are needed to conduct intakes with new clients. Undergraduate students are welcome.

Medical Volunteer
Volunteer doctors, nurse practitioners, dieticians, and registered nurses are needed to work in the Medical Clinic. Volunteers must have their own malpractice insurance. After a trial visit, we request that volunteers commit at least one full day each week for 6 months. Volunteer specialists can also provide services once a month. Health care professionals must be licensed in DC. Administrative volunteers are also needed to assist with scheduling appointments with patients.

Podiatrist
Volunteer podiatrist is needed once a month to provide foot care and instruction to participants at Dwelling Place Senior Center. Prefer volunteer able to commit once a month.

Oral Health Services
Volunteer doctors, hygienists and/or health educators are needed to work in support of the Dental Clinic. Dentist or hygienist volunteers must have a current DC license, and carry their own malpractice insurance. Health educators work in an outreach program promoting oral health. After an initial period, we would request that volunteers commit for at least a half-day every two weeks, although a greater time and frequency contribution is strongly encouraged. Assist with administrative tasks Internships offered to students on the health occupation fields.

Mental Health
SOME's mental health crisis stabilization program needs Mental Health professionals willing to conduct groups. Adults are also needed to accompany staff and residents to outings on the weekends (picnics, museums, etc.). Volunteers interested in sharing skills such as cooking, sewing, arts/crafts, etc. with residents are also needed. Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with adults living with mental illness.

Finance
SOME is seeking volunteers to assist with simple accounting and finance tasks. Students in Finance/Accounting looking to gain experience are welcome. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is helpful.

Staff Training and Development
Help us to help others! SOME is looking for workshop instructors to assist us in the development of our staff! SOME seeks experienced trainers to facilitate workshops in the following areas:

  • Computer Skills (basic)
  • Diversity
  • Financial management
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Leadership Development
  • and any other staff enrichment topic that you wish to facilitate!
