Freedom House

Ribbon cutting at the Freedom House dedication

SOME recently opened a facility for our newest affordable housing program which is called Freedom House. It offers a permanent, affordable, and decent place to live for 30 formerly homeless single men and women. The building contains six 5-bedroom suites with a shared kitchen and common area.

Minor renovations have been completed, including new painting, carpeting, and some kitchen remodeling. Each room is also wired to have cable and phone services available if the resident chooses.

Councilmembers Marion Barry and Linda Cropp joined community members and other supporters at the Dedication and Open House of Freedom House on May 1, 2006. Pictured above, Fr. Ray East, SOME Executive Director Richard Gerlach, DHCD Project Manager Shirley Hilliard, and Policy Advisor Lynn French cut the ribbon to open Freedom House at the ceremony.
