Health ServicesAs part of our mission to provide immediate services to the city's poor and homeless, SOME offers a comprehensive network of healthcare. The clinic is located at 60 'O' Street, NW, and is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Patients are accepted on a walk-in and appointment basis. SOME's Health Services includes a comprehensive medical clinic, an eye clinic and a dental clinic. The Medical Clinic provides healthcare services to the homeless and most vulnerable members of our community. These medical services would not otherwise be available to our clients if it were not for the SOME Medical Clinic. The Medical Clinic offers a full range of services including HIV care, podiatry services, gastroenterology, x-rays, lab work and treatment for diabetics. The Medical Clinic treats an average of 30 patients each day. The Eye Clinic gives ophthalmologic care to the homeless and extremely poor. The Eye Clinic at SOME is one of the only free eye clinics in the city and treats approximately 50 patients each month. Our part-time ophthalmologist and volunteers treat those suffering from diabetes, glaucoma, AIDS, and eye injuries, as well as conduct general eye exams. The Dental Clinic at SOME has been in operation since 1979. SOME's Dental Clinic serves indigent and homeless persons who would otherwise not have access to dental care. One primary dentist, one volunteer dentist and two dental assistants provide comprehensive dental care to our clients. Our services include basic dental care, screening, and restorations. Eligibility criteria require that a potential patient be 1) homeless in Washington, DC, and/or 2) low-income and living in the immediate neighborhood of our clinic at 60 “O” Street for oral health care. We do provide emergency care to the first three walk-in clients on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. In addition to services in the clinic, the Dental Clinic conducts outreach services to SOME's affordable housing programs and senior centers. These education efforts stress the importance of dental hygiene, demonstrate proper oral cleaning techniques, and provide toothpaste and toothbrushes to participants. While providing direct services, we are also advocating for adequate health care to meet the essential medical and dental care needs of homeless and other low-income people throughout the District. In addition, we are advocating for changes in the District's mental health and substance abuse programs. SOME Medical Clinic
