Training in high–demand careers

CET provides a thorough education in marketable skill areas identified through an industry and market survey. SOME CET is constantly adapting to ensure that CET graduates will always be in high demand. Training curricula are designed to meet industry-specific job tasks and actual work conditions are simulated to prepare the trainee to perform the entry-level tasks for that career. Currently, CET offers training in three career areas:

  • Front Desk/ Customer Service Specialist
  • Medical Administrative Assistant
  • Building Maintenance Service Tech

Education is Integral

SOME CET recognizes that education is critical to career development. Trainees work on reading, grammar, writing and comprehension skills pertinent to their skills training area. Individual tutoring and after-class Adult Basic Education is offered, and a Career Development Plan is developed for each trainee focusing on life-long learning after graduation.

Employer Focused

SOME CET is a tremendous resource for employers who want to hire talented individuals. Employers serve on CET’s Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) and supervise the curriculum, ensuring that CET is offering training in the areas demanded. Every CET graduate is prescreened to ensure that the employer's requirements are met, and employers save money by hiring CET graduates because SOME does not charge employers fees.

A Network of Support

SOME CET offers support services to help create a path to self-sufficiency:

  • tuition assistance for those that qualify
  • transportation subsidy for all trainees
  • access to over 23 SOME programs across Washington, DC
  • assistance in locating resources such as benefits, housing, childcare, and transportation
