Family Transitional Housing
SOME's Thea Bowman Housing Program includes a 10-unit apartment building and four townhouses, all of which are reserved for 14 needy families. This program provides two years of case management and affordable, transitional housing and serves as a bridge from homelessness to self-sufficiency. The mission of the Thea Bowman Housing Program is to enable families to build on their strengths and become independent. Residents participate in the Family Program, an intensive social services agenda that includes life skills, counseling, and financial literacy training. The families that participate in this program are connected to SOME's other services such as our job training programs, group and individual counseling and our health services. One-on-one tutoring is provided by our partner, Project Northstar, once a week. The children of Thea Bowman House also participate in arts and crafts activities, reading and story telling weekly.
