Volunteers gave 18,883 hours of their time in the Dining Room in 2008.

SOME could not possibly do its work without the help of volunteers. Last year, 13,724 volunteers gave an estimated 154,364 hours of their time to help cook and serve food in our Dining Rooms, tutor children, and share their gifts in a variety of ways. Thank you!
Please read below about all of the ways you can volunteer!
You can also let us know how you would like to get involved by completing SOME's volunteer application.
Help During the Holidays - By organizing food, clothing and gift drives, volunteers enable SOME to provide holiday meals, shoebox gifts and more to homeless and hungry men, women and children during the winter holidays.
We are fortunate to have enough volunteers scheduled to serve meals in our Dining Room through the end of the year. Volunteers are also needed after the holidays, from December 28 - January 15, to help us to sort through the generous donations of food and clothing that we receive.
Professional Services - Seeking professional volunteers, including health care, oral health care and mental health care providers; accountants; professional development and employee training instructors and cooks. Students and interns are welcome in several programs.
Elderly Services - Become a Senior Caregiver and/or share your talents and skills in our Senior programs. We are seeking manicurists, fitness instructors, workshop leaders, arts and crafts instructors and other individuals who want to share their talents. Great for families, groups, or individuals interested in working with senior citizens.

Tutoring Adults - Help students at the SOME Center for Employment Training or adults living in SOME's affordable housing programs to develop reading, writing, computer, job and social skills. GED preparation assistance is also needed. Opportunities to work one-on-one or in a classroom setting.
Tutoring Children - Help children ages 5 - 18 develop the skills that they need to succeed. Volunteers will provide children who live in SOME's affordable housing programs for families with homework assistance and skill development.
Food Service - Great for individuals and groups interested in volunteering one time or on a regular basis.
Special Occasions - Celebrate a special occasion or birthday with SOME's clients by assisting with special activities.

Activity Leaders (Individuals and group volunteers needed) - Several programs are in need of facilitators of activities like yoga, arts and crafts, outings, and game nights - great for small groups.
Material Donations - Volunteers assist in sorting and distributing donations to SOME. Great for groups or individuals. Volunteers are especially needed in November and December.
Opportunities for Children - There are a variety of ways that children can volunteer their time and energy for SOME.
Long-term Volunteers - For individuals who are looking to make a significant impact for SOME by spending three months to a year volunteering (full-time).
