Domestic Violence Awareness

THE DV TASK FORCE

October 24th SOME hosted an event at the Conway Center to bring awareness to domestic violence and pay tribute to those affected. SOME wants to make sure it is bringing domestic violence awareness to SOME staff and clients. The DV Task Force is also working to educate and inform lawmakers so that policy changes can occur in the community.

The goal of the DV Task Force is to ensure that domestic violence is not tolerated. Many turn a blind eye because it has become so normalized in a lot of family dynamics.

In the coming months, the DV task force will focus on new task force member training, looking at how domestic violence can manifest in different cultural dynamics, and exploring violence trainings specific to gender.

An additional mission of the DV Task Force is fostering healthy relationships among staff members and responding to events that occur in the community. Many people experiencing or witnessing domestic violence don't  feel that they have a voice, the Task Force members can be that voice.

Below, there is artwork featured at the event from SOME clients and community members. The art carries a very strong message that violence is never the answer and we should approach all relationships with love and kindness.
